Niche Your Tagline

Taglines are all over the blogosphere lately.

One critical point that’s being raised, time and time again, is that your tagline COULD NOT and SHOULD NOT work effectively for any other company. There are trends in marketing, just like there are in any other sphere, and if you’ve allowed your company to be swept up in a trend, you’re running the risk of losing your distinct identity.

That’s a critical mistake, especially if you’re a Nichepreneur™! When your success depends on standing out from the crowd and differentiating yourself from other service professionals, why in the world would you hamper your efforts by adopting the same marketing strategies everyone else is using?

It is okay to be different! It is okay to push the envelope a little. Who in the world ever would have thought that “It’s so easy a caveman could do it” would be a fabulous tagline? Yet Geico has transformed a handful of unlikely words into a powerful, if likely transient, slogan.

Here’s a test: plug your proposed tagline into Google’s search engine. Check the results. If your dream tagline is already working wonders for someone else, it’s not the right tagline for you!
